Return Of The Rex?

The Chicago Tribune, citing an unnamed source, reports that former Bears starting quarterback Rex Grossman has seen an increase in his practice reps from 30 percent to 40 percent, which could be a sign that current starter Brian Griese is on a short leash.
The fact that the Bears did not play last Sunday gave the team more practice time this week, which allowed more reps for Rex without cutting into Griese's total snaps.
Still, the Trib speculates that Griese could get the hook if he continues to play like he did in Chicago's last game, October 28 against the Lions.
Put simply, the Bears can't afford to drop to 3-6, if they hope to return to the playoffs in the season after their NFC title. Unlike 2006, an 8-8 record won't be enough to qualify for a wild-card this year. With the four best teams in the conference clustered into two divisions, even 10-6 might not be enough to nail down seeds No. 5 or No. 6.

Wow, you couldn't have possibly summed up the situation any better. Chicago needs some serious help at all the skill positions.

I think Rex would have made it worse. Of course, maybe he would have finally gotten in stride, but if he would have continued on in the same manner he was, it would have been even more pathetic than it is now.
Wait until bears sees this.

Re: Return Of The Rex?

I said something like that the Bears should get Rex ready to start over the bye week. He was doing no worse that Griese, and it looks like he'll get another shot before the season is over. If he does get in this week, than I say you have to start him for another 4 weeks at least. If Rex does nothing in that time, than you let Orton finish out the season. Orton is in a contract year as well, so if he does nothing than he'll be gone to. He's been on the team for 4 years and hasen't moved up the depth chart over Rex and Brian. That should tell you something.

And serious help at the non skill positions too, the offensive line is so bad. They only get so many draft picks. Peyton Manning, or Tom Brady would do better than Rex, but not that much better, unless there were better wide receivers, a better running back, and a better offensive line. Trying to plug a different quarterback into a bad team obviously hasn't worked. I think they should resign Rex at the end of the season, and start rebuilding everything else. In one or two years, if they have any luck drafting then they can try a better quarterback.
