| Chargers 14, Bears 3 - Recap So i was wrong and the Bears lost their first game in San Diego 14-3. But the Bears looked very good against a great team. Here is a brief recap. Rex Grossman - Rex looked good completing 12-23 for 145 yards and an interception. He also fumbled it once which was recovered by Adrian Peterson. Grossman found the open receiver forced nothing into tight coverage. Rex was under pressure from the Chargers pass rush all day but still played very good. Grade: B+ Running backs - As my friend Lefty Noob pointed out they did miss Thomas Jones to a point. Very few a running backs were going to have success the way the Chargers run defense looked. Benson had 17 carries for 42 yards and Adrian Peterson ran for 38 yards on 7 carries. Both fumbled the ball once in pretty key situations. Now if TJ (Thomas Jones) would have been there the fumbles might not have bee an issue. SO the backs struggled against a very Chargers run defense. Grade: C Defense - The Bears defense played better than I have seen in a long time by holding LT under 20 yards most of the game. They also keep Phillip Rivers out of the end zone. The Bears forced 2 turnovers on a Phillip Rivers botched snap recovered by Mike Brown and a Mike Brown Interception. They did allow LT to throw a Touchdown pass to Antinio Gates to take the lead and gave LT a Touchdown run. Michael Turner ran for 41 yards with LT running for 25 yards an Touchdown. But my thought on that is You can only hold a great running back down for so long and with a very good back up it started to wear on them but a good game overall for the defense. Grade: A Final Annalist's - Hear is my annalists of the game. The Bears played very good against a great team in that teams house. I think we also learned that the Bears are the best team in the NFC. I will explain the Saints who many believe to be the team in the NFC went to an elite AFC and lost 41-10. The Bears went to an elite AFC team and played them evan for the most part. The Chargers are just better than the Bears and the Bears are just better than Saints. thoughts?

| Re: Chargers 14, Bears 3 - Recap I think you are being a little too nice there 9. Grossman made some nice throws. The one to Berrian that got picked off looked like a miss read. It's a little hard to hear in a sports bar whats going on in the game. Was it me, or did it seem that Ron Turner at times didn't want to pass the ball when they should have been passing the ball? I thought there was a lot of bad play calling going on. All this hype about Hester, and I think he was out there for all of 1 play on offense. I'd have to give Grossman a C-. At least he played better than Brees. RB's I'd have to give a D. Not a + or a - just a D. I felt A.P looked better than Benson. Benson better wake up. WR B-. As I said, Berrian will be a Pro Bowl WR. The one good thing about Grossmans preformance was that he hooked up with Berrian, but outside of Berrian there were no other WR's catching the ball. TE C+, Gilmore made a couple of big mistakes, and I thought Clark had a good game. The OL, Grossman took a couple of big sacks. The 1st one I'm sure is going to be on sports center in the JACKED UP segment. But all in all I thought the OL did OK, I'll give them a C+. The defense gets a A+ imo. They played hard, got the turnovers and did all that they could do. Didn't hear what happend to Mike Brown, but if you saw the game you could see how much he means to the defense. The guy just can't stay healthy. LT got a 2 TD's but pretty much the Bears D shut him down. The Bear offense has got to get better. With all the playmakers on that offense and to only score 3 points is just sorry. Overall Bears offense D+. Bears defense A+ |

| Re: Chargers 14, Bears 3 - Recap They definitely gave themselves a chance to win the game, and probably should have on a day when the Chargers were quite beatable. This would have been a tough loss for Turner if he had gotten shut out. |

| Re: Chargers 14, Bears 3 - Recap I agree with legend here - Chicago had San Diego dead to rights and let them get away. The Chicago offense was awful - the only points they had on the board came because of great field position. And as expected, Cedric Benson proves that he's not a starting quality running back by averaging 2.2 yards per carry (19 carries, 42 yards, according to the official boxscore), coughing up a key fumble and getting stuffed on a vital fourth-down conversion. Much work to be done in the Windy City.

| Re: Chargers 14, Bears 3 - Recap Quote:
How did SD score lefty? 4th and 2. S.D punts to Chicago's 29 yard line where the ball hits a Bear player blocking a SD player (AKA a fluke play). Where SD went down and LT threw the TD pass. SD 7 Chi 3. Second TD came with SD starting on their own 44 yard line where they drove down and scored after another Bear turnover. I know turnovers come back to haunt you, but SD had their fair share of them as well, but the Bears just couldn't put it together when they needed to. Grossman throws a INT when they were in FG range. I guess if you are saying it that way then yeah, the Bears shot themselfs in the foot by giving the ball away. I feel you also have to say that the ball just bounced SD's way yesterday. There is something wrong with saying Chicago's offense needs a lot of work and not to say the same about SD. SD didn't look that great on offense either. |

| Re: Chargers 14, Bears 3 - Recap Very true. I didn't bring it up because this is the Bears forum, but yes, I was incredibly disappointed with the Chargers offense. Clearly the limited action LT saw in the preseason hurt him big time. Rivers was not sharp, and needs to do a better job varying his cadence (thought he was doing so near the end of the game). But most of all, I thought Norv Turner's play calling was atrocious. I said there's work to be done in Chicago; there's also clearly a lot of work to be done in San Diego. |
