| Chicago Bears training camp Site: Olivet Nazarene University Location: Bourbonnais, Ill. First practice: July 27 2006 Record: 13-3 The player under the microscope Rex Grossman. Grossman was the most criticized winning quarterback in the league in 2006. There will be many watchful eyes focusing on how well he performs under pressure in 2007. He has the tools and confidence to lead the Bears back to the playoffs, but if he lays an egg early, he will be hammered by analysts and fans. Chicago's front office and coaching staff believe the team can get back to the playoffs, but which signal-caller will lead the Bears to a Super Bowl title? Grossman had several excellent outings in 2006, but he had just as many subpar performances. He was average at best in the postseason, completing only half of his passes and throwing as many interceptions as touchdowns. Coach Smith may not be as patient in 2007. Breakout player Cedric Benson. The team's first-round draft choice in 2005 has been living in the shadow of Jones the past two seasons. Benson has the size, strength and athleticism to make the fans forget Jones. Benson doesn't appear to have outstanding wiggle and elusiveness, but he has excellent balance, foot agility and vision. He runs with great power to break tackles and move the pile. Benson's durability will be tested, but he shouldn't have problems if (backup) Adrian Peterson and third-down back Garrett Wolfe can ease the load. Benson can be an explosive player and will tote the football early and often, setting the tone for the Bears' ground attack. ESPN - Bears camp preview - NFL |

| Re: Bears training camp info Think im not being that bold saying Rex and Cedric Benson will breakout. The Bears have new Quaterbacks coach he's saying Rex has the poentail to (Bears might not like this but) Brett Farve like. He's a gun slinger,he's gotten more mobile so he can try to get away from big rush rather than just try to chuck it down feild. And there is your daily Rex report. Then come Cedric Benson last year when he got carries he averaged 3.9 yards per carry. Now its his back feild. He'll run almost any play inside the O-Line. Then one thing Devin Hester is doing fantastic on offense.ALl of the expert pick the Saints over the Bears because they had an impact player like Reggie Bush and the Bears offense was square. The Bears have that now.Devin Hester is that kinda player now on Offense and Returning .All those factors mean The Bears Will Win Super Bowl XXXXII

| Re: Bears training camp info If there is one question about the Bears offense it's the running game. I never was a big Jones fan, and to be honest I am glad to see him go. Only thing is, I really think the Bears got hosed for what they got for him, and the void he leaves as being a back up to Benson. Everyone has to know that it's Bensons time, but if Benson goes down in week 3 and is out for the season do you feel comfortable with AP, or Wolfe as your #1 back? Right now I don't. Knowing that Benson has been hurt and has missed time from his injuries. Benson has got to be healthy all season. This is a contract year for Grossman and he has had his fair share of injuries himself. I like Rex but any type of injury that would cost him to miss 7 to 8 weeks of playing time I would not bring him back. If he were to have a bad season I think you have to consider bringing him back, but would you sign him to a long term deal? I wouldn't, and I'm sure Rex wouldn't want to sign a 2 year deal. So how I see it is, if Rex doesn't have a good season (that being having the type of season he had last year without getting to the playoffs, or getting knocked out in the first round) he'll be gone. In other words, Rex has got to stay healthy, and he has to almost have a pro bowl type year to be back with the Bears next season and beyond. The Saints offense is a mirror image of the Bears. The Bears just have a better D than them imo. |

| Re: Bears training camp info Well thanks B9. I hope I found a new home here. I've been to a few other boards like ESPN and so on but there are just too many people with egos on those boards. They know it all, you can't try to tell them anything without someone calling you a moron or whatever. I just like football, and I can't wait for the season to start. Last year I took my nephew up to see the Bears and Bucs game. What a game that was, and what a great time we had. Ate at Ditka's, we just did up the whole thing up. I took my old lady up to the Bears and Bucs back in 2002, the last game at old soldiers field. Had a great time that time as well. Also I went to games up in Jacksonville and down in Miami to see the Bears play. I love the team but I'm not blinded by them either, but there is not much not to like about them right now. |
