Post Bears sign Greg Olsen

July 3 (Bloomberg) -- The Chicago Bears signed tight end Greg Olsen, the team's top pick in April's National Football League draft, to a five-year contract.

Olsen, 22, was the 31st overall selection from the University of Miami. He is the first player chosen in the first two rounds of the draft to sign with his team.

The Bears didn't disclose financial terms of the agreement in a press release.

Olsen caught a team-high 40 passes for 489 yards and one touchdown as a junior last season and was named to the All- Atlantic Coast Conference first team. He had 87 receptions for 1,215 yards and six touchdowns over his three-year career at Miami.

The Bears now have eight of their nine draft choices under contract. Defending National Football Conference champion Chicago opens training camp July 26 in Bourbonnais, Illinois.

Re: Bears sign Greg Olsen

Call me crazy, but I think Gregg Olsen may have been the bigest steal in the draft. There were a few teams that could have used a TE, and when N.E didn't take him I knew the Bears would, and I'm glad they did. I'm looking for some big things out of Olsen this season and from what I have been hearing out of training camp reports is that he has been doing a great job catching the ball.

I'm telling you, what the Bears lack on defense this season (if anything) will be made up for on offense. Berrian, Hester, Clark, Olsen. I liked what I saw out of R. Davis last season, and I like Gilmores' blocking ability. But it's a do or die season for Bradley. After this season Moose is going to have to re-do his contract or be let go of imo. All in all with a SOLID O-LINE I don't think the Bears will have any trouble catching the ball this season.

Nice to see a winning team get those signings down early enough not to interfere with the season...
