Chicago Bears to start Cedric Benson?

Yahoo! Sports writer Charles Robinson is reporting that the Chicago Bears are giving Cedric Benson the chance to compete for the No. 1 RB job during training camp this year. What do you think of his chances of beating out Thomas Jones? Personally, I think this would be a big mistake. Jones is and should be their guy, right?

Re: Chicago Bears to start Cedric Benson?

I think that management did not think that Jones would respond the way he did last season. With the money they have invested in Benson, they may push for him to be in the starting lineup.

Lovie Smith, on the other hand, should be more concerned with winning games. I do not have a problem with them saying the competition is open and reestablishing their best option for the season. I just hope they go with the best option and not just go with Benson since he is the "future".

We will see what Benson does with a full camp under his belt.

Yeah, maybe the competition is good, and maybe you want to challenge him to keep working hard. But there's no denying that, with the season he had last year, Jones deserves the starting nod. He's earned it.
