Chris Leak, the quarterback of the national champion Florida Gators, signed a free-agent contract with the Chicago Bears after going undrafted in this weekend's NFL draft.
Eleven quarterbacks were chosen in the draft — including Leak's SEC rival, JaMarcus Russell of LSU, who was taken first overall by Oakland. Leak was not rated highly going into the draft, but was expected to draw interest from teams in the later rounds.
Going undrafted allowed the former Gators signal caller to choose the team with which he'll head to camp with this summer. He joins a Bears team that is the defending NFC champions, but has an unsteady situation at quarterback with Rex Grossman.
Leak told the Gainesville (Fla.) Sun, "I'm looking forward to learning from Rex and especially going to a Super Bowl team with a great coach like Lovie Smith. So, that's a great situation.
"As far as being able to learn under a veteran quarterback and getting into a great system, you kind of think things happen for a reason. I really believe that."

Maybe because he wasn't drafted, they need a QB, and he wants to play pro football? Just a guess. Anyway, great pickup by Chicago. They needed to come out of this weekend with a rookie quarterback, and they manage to get the QB of the National Champions as a free agent. Jury's still out on whether or not Leak can be an NFL quarterback. He has the intangiables, obviously, but I know there are knocks on him physically.

he signed there because hell play on the practice squad then be on the roster next year because Rex and Kyle Orton are in contract years and the Bears also sighed Daruis Walker

I think he chose very well. He went to a team that has a questionable QB situation. It is easier to take over for a Grossman than it is for a Manning, Vick, or Brady. If he has a great training camp, he should at least bump Kyle Orton on the depth chart.

Rexy has been up and down and orton has been somewhat a bust so leak has a good of chance as anyone to make the roster..

first of all you quoted me wrong, secondly I wasnt hating on rex, its a fact he was up and down last year making bears fans want griese to play at times, I personally like rex since his spurrier florida days, im not saying leak is gonna start but I wouldnt be suprised to see him get a little playing time this year if rex falters any..

Leak will be in the games towards the end of the season.

I'm not saying he'll start them, though.

i queted u wrong because thats wat goin to happen he was up and down but he still got them to a super bowl i think he'll win it this year
