Chicago Bears' Tommie Harris joins 700 area kids in Easter egg hunt

Easter weekend in Killeen has been full of surprises.

Despite the freezing rain Saturday afternoon, more than 700 children showed up at the annual Easter egg hunt behind the Killeen Community Center.

Also showing up, with several surprises of his own, was Tommie Harris, an Ellison High School graduate and defensive tackle for the Chicago Bears. He donated six bicycles, five movies, five Discman CD players and several other door prizes for children at the Easter egg hunt.

"I just wanted to give back to my community," Harris said.

He said his buying the door prizes was a last-minute idea. He makes it back to Killeen about four times a year, but he said he doesn't forget his roots.

"I think it's very important to show the people you didn't forget where you came from," Harris said.

He took pictures with kids and greeted community members while sipping hot chocolate for nearly an hour in the freezing rain.
