Adam Archuleta trade

The Chicago Bears have acquired S Adam Archuleta from the Washington Redskins for a sixth round draft pick. According to the Associated Press, "Archuleta, who languished on the bench most of last season despite having the richest contract ever given a safety, will be reunited in Chicago with coach Lovie Smith, his former defensive coordinator with the St. Louis Rams... The deal came one day before Archuleta was due to paid a guaranteed $5 million bonus." Good pick up for the defending NFC Champs?

Agreed. Throw out what he did in Washington last year; in Lovie's defensive scheme, he was damn good, and he will be again.

Archuleta relieved to be a Bear
Covers, Canada - 20 hours ago
Adam Archuleta sounded relieved to be joining the Chicago Bears after hitting ''rock bottom'' and getting ''blindsided'' during a stormy season with the Washington Redskins.

...

''Last year was pretty much a life-altering experience for me,'' Archuleta said Thursday during a conference call with reporters. ''In a certain sense, I hit rock bottom. ... During my time there, it was a negative, but as I look back, I think it was a positive thing for me.''

The Redskins lured Archuleta from St. Louis a year ago with a seven-year, $35 million contract that included $10 million in bonuses - the richest deal ever given to a safety. With the Bears, Archuleta has an $8.1 million deal over three years, including a $5 million bonus, according to several newspaper reports.

After signing that big contract, Archuleta never fit with the Redskins.

''I kind of got blindsided by what happened in Washington,'' he said. ''I didn't expect it. I didn't see it coming. And it just kind of snowballed into kind of a mess.''

Assistant coach Gregg Williams tried to use the Archuleta more as a coverage safety, which wasn't a good fit for the converted linebacker. Archuleta lost the starting job in the preseason, regained it for the first seven games because of Pierson Prioleau's knee injury. He struggled, was vulnerable against long passes, and wound up being used only on special teams for most of the second half of the season as the Redskins finished with a 5-11 record.

Archuleta's demotion was an embarrassing subject, and neither Williams nor coach Joe Gibbs explained it.

''The communication between me and - not all members, but certain members - of the coaching staff was pretty nonexistent the last few months of the season,'' Archuleta said.

Wow, I knew Washington was a mess... but Archuleta makes it sounds worse than I ever imagined.

I've seen worse...my company would make Washington look like the poster child for good communications...we are a walking Dilbert strip...

All year long if I had to pick a least favorite Bear, it would have to be Chris Harris, but he did really step up in the playoffs.
