| Smith's agent says talks with Bears have broken down ESPN.com - NFL - Agent: Lovie's contract talks with Bears reach stalemate What a shocker .. the Bears don't want to pay Lovie what he is worth .... I knew this would happen. This is why I wanted to promote Ron Rivera. He could have been hired for what the BEars wanted to pay someone ... hardly anything. I like Lovie, but I knew the Bears would not pay the type of money he is seeking and deserves based on the market.      |

| Re: Smith's agent says talks with Bears have broken down They haven't made the numbers public, but if the Bears aren't offering at least $5 million per season, they ought to be embarrassed. Bobby Petrino, a completely untested commodity in the NFL, is making $4.5 million. By that scale, Smith should be worth at least $6 or $7 million (although it's really hard to say that anyone 'deserves' that kind of money).
