I think he's doing the right thing. if Griese was anything special, he wouldn't have been on four teams already.

What does everyone else think?

I think so too, someone just needs to sit down with Rex and explain that just because someone runs deep, doesn't mean he has to throw it there. I know Spurrier taught him in a wide open offense, but he needs to not be afraid to check down and throw the ball away. I'll take some punts because of balls thrown away versus a big interception!

Re: Lovie sticking with Grossman

Grossman could well be a great quarterback. But this team doesn't need a gunslinger who will throw as many INTs as TDs (if not more) right now. It needs a game manager; the kind of guy who may not be able to win you the game, but he darn sure won't lose it for you. Not sure if Griese's that guy or not, but it's worth a shot. Even if he's doesn't have the arm and can't make big plays, as long as he makes fewer mistakes it would be a change for the positive.

Sorry me thought you used the words Grossman and great in the same sentence...Griese is limited in talent and arm..but he indeed can manage a game... I personally perfer Orton...but that's me...Mr. Vegas...a gambler by nature...

Re: Lovie sticking with Grossman

Griese would be a better game manager, and remember he had some mixed success over his career, anyone I think can put up their best stats knowing they have the defense behind them!

Don't get me wrong - he needs a lot of work. But he's young enough to where there's still potential.

He needs to stick with Rex. Rex is just going through the motions right about now.

Say it isn't so my friend...I think that Gator-Bears connection of yours is making you see Rex through orange colored glasses...I haven't been impressed with the kid...forcing balls into coverage instead of dumping underneath in the Cards game etc...

I am not so sure they can go too far with him there...

Bears make right move in sticking by Grossman at QB
SI.com - 17 hours ago

Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith must feel like he's back in familiar territory now that the NFL season has finally moved into December. After all, he's had to deal with some sort of quarterback issue in the Windy City whenever we've hit this time of year. In 2004, he was trying to make the most of Chad Hutchinson being the third quarterback the team used that season. In '05, he had to decide when to re-insert Rex Grossman into the lineup after Kyle Orton started 14 games in Grossman's absence. Now Smith is defending Grossman, which is exactly why I'm writing today. Smith, despite all the turnovers Grossman has produced in recent weeks, should be sticking with his starter.

As much abuse as Grossman has taken in Chicago and nationally, his play isn't exactly a crisis. The last time I checked, the Bears were still 10-2 and celebrating the NFC North championship that they clinched in Sunday's 23-13 win over Minnesota. Barring any major collapse, they'll be holding the No. 1 spot in the NFC when the postseason begins next month. Even with Grossman struggling, life ain't all that bad for Chicago (believe me, I know about quarterback issues; I'm a Lions fan). In fact, I'd argue that the Bears winning games in spite of Grossman's play is evidence of how strong this team remains.

This isn't to say that Grossman gets a pass on his problems. He certainly isn't getting paid good money to throw more interceptions (17) than any other NFC quarterback has tossed through 12 games. It is important to note here, however, that the Bears really don't need to get rid of the guy, especially not with the idea that Brian Griese will be their savior. They simply need to better utilize Grossman.

Cool Re: Lovie sticking with Grossman

The thing about Grossman too is at least he stretches the field so the safeties can't inch up and play the run. They'll probably get more conservative in the playoffs anyhow. And just the threat of the long pass will help Jones and Benson.

Most Bears' fans seem on board. DB From Chicago bears Blog reports seems representative of a lot of Bear fans:

I think Coach Lovie is right. Grossman will not get any better by being sidelined.

Not so sure that the Bears with their D really need to stretch that field all that much...I think Rex is a liability that will cost them a playoff loss.
