Carolina Panthers wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett has been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office lists Jarrett on its web site (via PFT) as having been arrested at 3 a.m. today.

Jarrett was a disappointment as a rookie second-round draft pick in 2007. He played in seven games, starting none, and caught just six passes for 73 yards, with no touchdowns. In 2008 he's expected to compete with the newly signed Muhsin Muhammad to be the No. 2 receiver across the field from Steve Smith.

Some in Carolina hope that Muhammad will serve as Jarrett's mentor. Let's hope Muhammad can mentor Jarrett in how to avoid off-field trouble -- like the drug and weapons charges that Muhammad was arrested on during his first stint with the Panthers.

Jarrett should be a pretty good player at some point in his carrier but he is like 21 years old and he got caught driving drunk. Im sure we arent all angels in here, this may be his wake up call and he could turn it around and be a productive player for the Panthers. Of course I say give him his punishment and if he screws up again he's gone for sure.
