Panthers Cut Carr, Sign Moose

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Carolina Panthers cut ties with disappointing quarterback David Carr on Wednesday and brought back an old favorite, receiver Muhsin Muhammad.

Carr was released a year after he signed a $6 million, two-year deal with the Panthers following a five-year stint as a starter in Houston. But Carr struggled so much when he took over for the injured Jake Delhomme last season that he was eventually demoted to third-string.

Carr leaves Carolina as Muhammad prepares for his second stint with the franchise, a week after he was released by the Chicago Bears. Agent Joel Segal said Muhammad signed a two-year deal, but declined to reveal financial figures.

Muhammad was the Panthers' second-round pick in 1996 and spent nine seasons with Carolina before being released in a salary-cap move. The Panthers struggled to replace him, leaving star receiver Steve Smith to face constant double-teams over the past few seasons.

Re: Panthers Cut Carr, Sign Moose

I have to believe Carr's at or nearing the end of his career. The talk for years was that he could be good in Houston with a better line. Then Matt Schaub goes down there, Carr goes to Carolina, and Schaub still winds up outplaying Carr. Now, I am a little surprised they brought Muhammad back in. I think they're trying to recapture the success that that receiving tandem had in the past, and they're going to be sorely disappointed.

Cool Re: Panthers Cut Carr, Sign Moose

You know, I think if the price was right, and I needed a QB, I would take a chance on Carr one more time.

That comment makes my side hurt. David Carr is the worst QB in the league. He can't pass the ball, every pass looked like it was a desperation pass. He can scramble real well but from what I observed last season was that was all he could do. He even had trouble handing the ball off to the RB's. Goodbye David Carr.

Got to agree with you...I think this is a guy who has never found the right team...it happens...Archie Manning in the Saints...I think at best he had an 8-8 year...but he was one hell of a QB.

Isn't Bill Parcells shopping for a veteran quarterback?

I always liked the guy. I would like to see him get one more shot. I would put money on him going to the Dolphins to compete for the starting spot. Do you think he could do well if he went to the Vikings. They are unhappy with their QB, and he wouldn't have to worry about his line collapsing...they have a pretty good one.

Yeah, I'm with Stoney here. Carr, Losman, Boller, Grossman... send the lot of them to the Arena League already and be done with it.

Carr to the Bears will never happen if the Bears have any brains at all. It'd be like adding another Grossman.

I'm with Az on this. Is Carr great? No, but I think he could be a game manager with a team who's focus is running the ball down the oppositions throat. I really think that David Carr could have been very good but he just didn't develop properly scrambling for his life everytime the ball was snapped down in Texas.

What's the point? Better that they try Carr, than do nothing at all...and right now, they are doing nothing.
