Earlier today, the Associated Press speculated that Panthers safety Mike Minter was going to retire. ESPN has confirmed that, yes, Minter is hanging up the shoulder pads. According to the AP article, "Minter, the Panthers' second-round pick in 1997, is the franchise's leader with 953 tackles. His 141 starts and 94 consecutive starts are also team records." Will Carolina miss him? How do they replace him?

No doubt this will hurt the team. He and John Kasey have been with the team the longest and he provides a lot of leadership. Also, there is not a standout favorite. They have a bunch of young guys. Nate Salley was slotted to play the other Safety spot so he could move to take Minter's place.
