Panthers Sink To New Low
WSOCtv.com, NC - 8 hours ago
(Sports Network) - Following the Carolina Panthers' 14-point home loss to the New York Giants last week, head coach John Fox swore that his team would fight to the bitter end over the final three games of the season, despite its playoff chances hanging by a thread.

But midway through the second half of the Panthers' 37-3 shellacking at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, it became pretty apparent Fox's team had waved the white flag.

Carolina, which now stands at 6-8 after suffering its fourth consecutive defeat, actually still has a remote chance of reaching the postseason because of the deplorable state of the NFC. Judging by the club's performance over the last month, however, it is going to take a miracle for the Panthers to be playing in January.

It's even conceivable that Carolina may not win another game this season. The Panthers' final two contests are on the road against two playoff contenders from the NFC South, the division they were supposed to dominate. The first takes place this Sunday in Atlanta, which hung a 20-6 loss on Carolina in Bank of America Stadium back in September. Then comes a visit to division champion New Orleans, a team capable of scoring more points in a quarter than the 16 the Panthers' pathetic offense has generated over the two most recent losses.

The last time Carolina was this bad, Chris Weinke was a struggling rookie quarterback thrown to the wolves, as the Panthers endured a miserable 1-15 campaign in 2001. On Sunday, Weinke was a struggling veteran quarterback playing like a wide-eyed rookie with starter Jake Delhomme forced to the sidelines with a thumb injury for a second straight week.

I agree. This sucks. I was going to be going to the game this sunday in atlanta seeing that I was going to be in Macon for Christmas. Who cares now. I didn't buy the tickets. I'd rather watch it on the Big Screen tv.

I hear ya, buddy... Carolina is definitely the most disappointing team in the NFC this season. Maybe in the whole NFL.
