Carolina Panthers QB Jake Delhomme questionable with thumb injury
CBC News, Canada - 16 hours ago
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme missed practice Wednesday because of a sprained right thumb and is questionable for this weekend's game against the New York Giants.

Delhomme was injured Monday night when his throwing hand hit a helmet on his nine-yard touchdown pass to Steve Smith in the first quarter. Delhomme kept playing, and coach John Fox said he wasn't aware of the injury until after the game.

"It's something he dealt with. It was a lot more sore after the game," Fox said.

Re: Delhomme injured

Well, you never like to see a guy get hurt, but this might work out kind of well for the Panthers. Sit Jake a week, let him heal, and give Weinke a shot to see what he can do against the Giants. That way he's not "benched" per se, but you still get to try out the backup. What do you think?

Re: Delhomme injured

So what's with all the talk going around that he's more seriously injured and could miss the rest of the year?

As for a possible Chris Weinke start...I don't know if I should be happy or not. Has he ever started a NFL game before, I think he has before the Delhomme/Peete era.

Yeah - he's started before and it wasn't too pretty. Here are his career stats:
