It hasn't really mattered if it's punt returns or kickoff returns. The Panthers have struggled in both areas.
Punt returner Chris Gamble ranks 28th in the NFL with a 5.4-yard average, and consider this nugget from STATS: Gamble has broken one tackle on 27 returns. That number might not be as bad as it sounds because Tennessee's Adam Jones leads the league with six broken tackles.
But 19 punt returners have broken more tackles than Gamble. The kickoff returns handled mostly by Williams and fellow rookie Richard Marshall haven't been any better. The Panthers rank 29th in the league with an average starting spot at their own 24.1.
