| Re: Panthers' Wallace fined $7,500 for hit on Simms Carolina Panthers' defensive end Al Wallace was fined 7,500 US dollars for his slam of Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Chris Simms in the US Football League match last Sunday.
The Bucs believed that hit might have been part of the reason Simms injured his spleen. But an NFL spokesman said it was clear Simms had been injured prior to the fourth-quarter hit. The NFL said Wallace violated a rule that says players cannot "unnecessarily or violently throw a [quarterback] down and land on top of him with all the defender's weight." Okay, so the hit cost Simms his spleen...I got it. But is the rules that protect the QB a bit much? I mean its not flag football for gosh sake. Are we too easy on the QB these days? |
