The loss to Philly, and it was no close game, final score was 5-1 for the Flyers, puts them in 11th with one more game played than Toronto, and the isles.
The Habs quietly slip into the 8th spot.
Whitney was the lone scorer for the 'Canes - Grahame was in net (punishment to Ward?). Biron had a great game, stopping a penalty shot even, and some guy named Jeff Carter was a two goaler for Philly. Knuble, Coburn and Hatcher gave the other 3.
I don't want to dance on someone's newly dug grave, as they say, but Carolina losing didn't only boost Montreal - it boosts the Leafs too - unfortunately those pesky isles are also right behind us.
I can't count Carolina out, of course, old Stanley Cup champs of the 2005/06 season after all - but where has their game gone?

Here's a possible answer - okay maybe it's not an answer but it's an amusing stat:
five current or former 'canes are expecting babies. I guess it was all the celebrating last season after winning the Cup. Maybe their minds are somewhere else.

We should track such a stat...see if there is a trend over the years...a chart that graphs pregnancies vs team wins...
