Lineup - Mountain Dew 250

Here's the REVISED lineup for Saturday's Mountain Dew 250. Austin Dillon's qualifying run was disallowed after failing to meet the height requirement, so Jennifer Jo Cobb, who had been bumped out of the field, now gets to start the race in the 36th position.

That's what I like about NA__AR, their consistent rule enforcement. How many times in the past 3-4 years have we seen a Cup car fail inspection and how many have we seen sent home? Mikey, three years ago, immediately comes to mind.

The #3 RCR truck is not a "Chosen One" in this series, so its disallowed time sends it home. The Chosen 35 in Cup get to start 42nd when their time is disallowed.

Re: Lineup - Mountain Dew 250

In their defense( that bout choked me), I have seen 1 or 2 that wasn't in the top 35 sent home, and the 3 truck was not in the top 35. Personally, in the top 35 or not, I think if they fail the inspection they should be sent home and not allowed to race. But if you're in the top 35 you're allowed to race, just have to start at the end.

If this had been someone like Tod Bodine or Ron Hornaday would they have been sent home? I think not.......

So, the bottom line is that if you are in NA__AR's "Chosen," cheating is permissible?

Maybe I'm a little off base (and redundant if some other posters are to be believed) but I don't see this as a creditable way to run a railroad.

To me thats basically what Nascar is saying. I think if anybody fails the inspection they should be sent home, regardless of who they are and what point position they're in.

Now you're just showing off and preaching to the choir! But then you have the "Fanboys" (thanks DOF...I really like that analogy) who feel, "Well, if <<insert favourite driver>> doesn't make the race, why watch it?"

With the high profile that Childress and Dillon have, combined, I'm kind a surprised that NA__AR didn't call an audible and let them race. They've done that a whole lot in the past.

The bottom line is that this silly, blatantly unequal and unfair CHOSEN Rule that NA__AR refuses to address is the culprit in the final assessment. I can think immediately of two examples I'm sure you'll remember:
(1) Mikey and his "mystery fuel additive. They allowed him to enter an unqualified car in the qualifier and he ultimately ran in the 500.
(2) Five years ago Smoke/JGR showed up with a car so radically out of measurement that NA__AR confiscated the car and Gibbs eventually got it back literally in pieces! Stewart started that race in another car.

I know that I'm making a really immature and intelligence-challenged statement but I just can't think of a better way to phrase it; the CHOSEN Rule just plain SUCKS!

That's my 502th complaint against NA__AR. #503 is in here somewhere!

Re: Lineup - Mountain Dew 250

I'm so happy that Steve Park has made it back in one of the upper tier series of Nascar; if only for one race. I hope that the guy can make a go of it. He's a great driver. It's just that he's had one heck of a run of bad luck.

Go Steve!!!

You and me both. I'm glad he made it. Maybe he'll get to run some next year.

I already was fully aware of that. Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged has made that point very salient

History Lesson: What I stated was a paraphrased version of the caption of a cartoon published in [I believe] the New York World, sometime in the 1920's. The cartoon addressed the railroad mismanagement and chaos which was prevalent during that time in the US and UK. It showed a yardman watching several trains colliding in a rail yard and him saying, "Hell of a way to run a railroad!"

I thought the comparison between railroad management and the current NA__AR management model as appropriate. I still do.

Re: Lineup - Mountain Dew 250

I'm not saying its not fair that he was sent home I'm saying it's not fair that he was sent home and others who have had the same issue just have to start in the back.

Now had they been sending everyone home that was too low then I wouldn't have a problem with it.
