Five players for the Golden Bears have been put on eight wach lists for various awards this preseason. They are:

1. Desmond Bishop- Butkis Award
2. Daymeion Hughes- Bednarik Award, Lott Trophy, Nagurski Trophy, and Jim Thorpe Award
3. Brandon Mebane- Bednarik Award, Lott trophy,Nagurski Trophy, and Outland Trophy
4. Marshawn Lynch- Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award
5. Nu'u Tafisi- Hendricks Award

The Butkis Award recognizes the top linebacker. The Hendricks Award the top defensive end. The Nagurski Trophy to the best defensive player, The Bednarik also recognizes a defensive player. The Maxwell is the equivalent of a Heisman, so is the Walter Camp Award. The Jim Thorpe Award goes to the top defensive back. The Lott Trophy is given out to the defensive player with an "impact" both on and off the field. The Outland Trophy is awarded to the best offensive or defensive lineman.
