BERKELEY — When Cal takes the field Saturday at the Rose Bowl, don't expect UCLA's coaching staff to be in a rush to exchange greetings with Bears cornerback Chris Conte.
The Bruins thought Conte was headed to Westwood last winter, but the true freshman changed his commitment at the last minute and signed with Cal on National Letter of Intent Day. "I was really going back and forth up until (the night before signing day)," Conte said. "I don't think anybody really knew. I know the UCLA coaches had no idea I was going to switch to Cal. I didn't really speak with anyone (from UCLA). I don't really think that they wanted to talk to me after that."
