| DeSean Jackson Gaining Early Heisman Trophy Candidate Publicity BERKELEY - "It's hard to think of any offense player entering 2007 as explosive and dangerous as DeSean Jackson," said ESPN college football reporter Joe Schad. "(He) is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. (He) is an obvious Heisman candidate if Cal is contending for the Pac-10 title." This is just one of the examples of the publicity that University of California wide receiver DeSean Jackson has been receiving over the past month in response to the athletic departments' Heisman Trophy campaign push for the junior standout. Jackson was a first-team All-Pac-10 selection as a wide receiver and as a punt returner in 2006, while earning first-team All-America honors as a punt returner by the Associated Press, Walter Camp Foundation, the Football Writers Association of America, the Sporting News and Rivals.com. "I didn't see a more explosive player in the country last season than DeSean Jackson," said ESPN college football columnist Mark Schlabach. "Whether it was returning punts or catching the football, Jackson has the ability to change a game on any given play." "Every once in a while, the recruiting guys hit the bull's-eye," said ESPN.com writer Ivan Maisel. "They said three years ago that Jackson would be a game breaker, and he proved them right as a sophomore last season, averaging 18 yards on his 59 receptions and returning four punts for touchdowns."
