Long recognized as one of the top players in the history of sports, "The Play" from the California-Stanford Big Game in 1982 has been voted as the top play of the ESPN SportsCenter Era by voters on ESPN.com. The legendary play received 32 percent of the vote which was part of the network's celebration of its 30,000th SportsCenter show, which aired on Sunday, Feb. 11.

Bite your tongue! The Cal-Stanford finish is something we'll never see again... one of those once-in-a-lifetime flukes that can't be repeated. Don't forget that it had been a back and forth game before that and it looked like Elway had just led Stanford to a victory. And - BOOM! - just like that the tide changes 100%. Great stuff.

Thank you Lefty! The Play was one of the most improbable events that have ever happened in sports ever! Who would have predicted that runback, all the laterals, even the Stanford trombone player getting hit like he did, was even going to happen? I even remember watching that game, oh so many years ago. I think that is the definitely the one play that turned me on to Cal football and their sports in general.
