Dumont no longer a Sabre

This in the Star:
The Buffalo Sabres cut ties with J.P. Dumont yesterday, walking away from the forward's one-year, $2.9 million (all figures U.S.) arbitration award.

So they kept Briere and they kept Mair, because they had to, and they let Dumont fly.

So he won an Arbitration award and then they walked away?...Can they do that?...Don't they still have to pay?...Hard to believe Dumont was once taken 3rd overall in the draft. I just don't think he has ever lived up to the high expectation. His +/- rating has only once been on the plus side.

Re: Dumont no longer a Sabre

I think they can walk away. i think they have.
The rest of the article states:

Dumont, 28, was awarded the contract on Monday after posting 20 goals and 20 assists in 54 games with the Sabres last season. His price was considered too steep for the cost-conscious Sabres, who have yet to re-sign starting netminder Ryan Miller and defenceman Dmitri Kalinin as they approach the $44 million salary cap. Dumont, who made $1.596 million last season, immediately becomes an unrestricted free agent. The skilled winger has 121 goals and 135 assists in 434 career games with Chicago and Buffalo.

They are definietly going to want to keep Miller.

Wow!...I think if it goes to arbitration it should be binding on both parties...or what's the point. Anyway, he is overpaid at $1.59m, so who would want him at $2.9m?...and who is dumb enough to award it to him?

If briere and mair hadn't cost so much, the Sabres would have kept him.
Seems to me, these days arbitration goes in favour of the player, so when you see a guy get cut loose because he was awarded too much, it's payback.
