Roy avoids arbitration, signs

nhl.com reads:
Sabres forward Derek Roy avoided NHL arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a six-year, $24 million contract with Buffalo.
It's a hefty deal for a third-line center coming off a career season in which he finished fifth on the Sabres with 63 points (21 goals, 42 assists) in 75 games. The deal represents a significant raise for Roy, who made $627,000 last year.

Buffalo must be busily trying to peg down the players who WILL stay, so this is a decent sign - trying to make up for those great holes that now exist.
How do Buffalo fans feel about Drury and briere? do you hate them? do you understand their moves?

That's more an a million dollars per goal. Wow. Goth's right, that's going to kill the NHL's salary structure.

Hockey has to know that it can't hand out NBA, MLB or NFL money...it has to...

I think Buff is desperate.
By calling him a decent sign - I believe he is a player they should hang onto, as he, afinogenov and vanek worked well together.
Should they pay out that kind of $$? Who's looking to go to Buffalo right now? - for some reason, no one.
This is a fan pleaser. he's here for 6 years now.

Still, no reason to wreck the NHL salary structure over it.

What bugs me more - and I think people are going to say, this has nothing to do with that - but what i hate is the Rangers set up, much more than Buffalo paying too much $$ for one guy.
The Rangers have made a history of paying for the big names time after time. i don't know where they find the money, but they plan it out so they can buy the jagrs and the Drurys and the Gomezs and the Shanahans.
I think that wrecks hockey more. It creates some kind of bloated Super team that usually sucks majorly. yet it happens every new season.
What it says is, You be a big name you get the big money regardless of anything else.
does that make sense?
i have very little respect for many of the players that have chosen NY because of this.
if buffalo wants to put the big money down for a guy who worked his ass off last year and yeah wasn't the best but certainly earned his spot - then, fine.
But do i have much respect left for drury choosing the rangers? No.
I like how Briere went with philly. that smacks of exciting.
I know in both cases - Buffalo and NY Rangers - it's about the $$ but what about sticking with your team, not making a beeline for the one with the big names?
