RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Daniel Briere scored the only goal in a shootout and Ryan Miller stopped Carolina cold to give the Buffalo Sabres a 3-2 victory over the Stanley Cup-champion Hurricanes on Wednesday night in a season-opening rematch of last year's Eastern Conference finals.



Boy these two teams are takinig off where the left off...are we seeing the start of a big rivalry? Ryan Miller is this kid the next big thing this side of Brodeur or Hasek?

yeah, but briere is the star - Buffalo is going to be huge this year. They are so confident right now - just a few years back, the sabres were bankrupt and now look at them. how does that happen? where can we get us some?

I secretly do cheer on the sabres- they are so full of life right now - but in a leafs vs Sabres matchup? No contest.
But Miller and briere are huge shining lights. How could you not get excited about them?

That's the kind of thing you have to do on the sly in this territory. Although i did pick up a Sabres key chain the other day for my keys. My husband shook his head at me, as if I'd majorly let him down.

Then there's an article in today's paper that makes you like them even more - or see where the good vibe is coming from. There was this huge freak snowstorm that took over Buffalo over the weekend, shut everything down and on the way back from the road, the managing partner had purchased 10 generators for the team members, for those that may be out of power at home and worried about kids and wives. Of course, all is done so the players will have a clear mind to WIN but still - it was a great gesture.
re that snowstorm-colour commentator for the CBC Harry Neale lives in Buffalo and he couldn't get to TO for the Calgary game so history was made: Cassie Campbell was the first female to do colour for Hockey Night In Canada.

I am a fellow Buffalonian and Ryan Miller is one amazing kid to watch...Hasek has his own long time greatness that cant be exceeded. Miller has great talent and we will see if he can bring us to the Cup or produce the long term numbers of a great goalie like Hasek.
