Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild is leaving to become the next head coach at Colorado State, and although
the Buffalo News reports that Fairchild will finish out the season with the Bills -- not pull a
Bobby Petrino -- let's face it, this stinks for the Bills.
The Bills are getting ready for their biggest game in years on Sunday. Beat the Browns in Cleveland and they've got a good chance at their first playoff berth since 1999. Lose and they're out of it. Is this really the time that they want their offensive coordinator focusing his attention on anything other than the game plan?
And make no mistake, it will be a distraction: Fairchild will have to spend at least some time that he'd otherwise spend working with the Bills on things like making recruiting calls for Colorado State. And if the Bills make the playoffs, the distractions will grow.
