A week before the draft GM Marv Levy volunteered that “we need a run stuffer.” Undersized London Fletcher was a tackling machine, but unless he had someone the size of Sam Adams or Ted Washington playing in front of him, many of his tackles came 3 or 4 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. No less than Hall of Famer Jack Ham calls Posluszny “the greatest Penn State linebacker ever.”
Posluszny needs to learn the pro style quickly since Buffalo’s first three games are against Denver, Pittsburgh and New England. Almost any back plugged in by the Broncos becomes a 1,000-yard gainer; the Bills learned painfully about Willie Parker before anyone else in the NFL did; and the brilliance of young Laurence Maroney made Corey Dillon expendable. Posluszny could be the only rookie starter on a defense that at times may start five second-year pros.
