ESPN's E:60 recently profiled Kevin Ferguson, better known as the underground fighting phenomenon Kimbo Slice. Part of that profile is here:

His trainer refers to Slice as "just a natural athlete," and this profile me wonder whether Slice really should be considered a legitimate athlete, not just some dude who got in some fights that got posted on the internet.

Although I think the top fighters in UFC would destroy Slice in any type of sanctioned mixed martial arts fight, I do think Slice is a real athlete. ESPN is such a dominant force in the American sports landscape that its decision to profile Slice legitimizes him. And that means we'll be seeing a lot more of him.

what do you know about this guy empire? I remember seeing him in a backyard fight video a few years back I think..He looks pretty tough..

Well he's been training for about a year with Bas Rutten in MMA. He's got tremendous power. The question is how his ground ability is developing.

He had one exhibition MMA fight earlier this year where he beat former pro boxer Ray Mercer. Then in his sanctioned MMA debut at the EXC show a month or two ago, he demolished Bo Cantrell in about 30 seconds. But Cantrell took the fight on short notice, was sick going into it and basically was no real competition.

We haven't seen Slice against any serious MMA competition yet.

Im definitley interested to see how he does against some good competition, I just started picking up on his story when espn was showing some stuff, I do remember watching a few street fight videos he had circulating the net and dude looks hardcore, is he fighting in the ufc or some other mma..

He's signed with Elite Xtreme Combat (EXC). They're on Showtime but I'm not sure when they're next event is scheduled.
