Tomorrow night ends the biggest year for pro boxing in a long time when Floyd Mayweather Jr. fights Ricky Hatton. The undefeated Brit is expecting a horde of countrymen to be present at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
So expect Mayweather to be boo'd louder than usual. Then again, it's probably nothing the champion isn't already use to.
Hatton is confident he will hand the flamboyant Mayweather his first loss.
"Hatton (43-0, 31 KOs) eagerly traveled to Mayweather's adopted hometown to get a fight for the WBC welterweight title. He relishes being an underdog to Mayweather (38-0, 24 KOs), the flamboyant, self-proclaimed face of boxing — and he loves hearing Mayweather's months of dismissive comments about Hatton's skills.
After all, Hatton knows almost every great champion has overlooked the first opponent who defeated him; especially when distracted by excessive pride and the seduction of celebrity. Sugar Ray Leonard, Lennox Lewis, even Muhammad Ali — they all slipped when they forgot how they rose to the top and began admiring the view from up high. "
