Re: Ask The Experts...MMA

The major MMA outlets in the U.S. usually do have some testing as long as there is an athletic commission. However, it's not random. The A.C. will test the fighters before their fight and afterwards. So the guys do know when they will be tested.

This NY Times article is great, 'Drug Testing in Hasn't Grown with Sport'...according to this piece, Texas does not drug testing in the state.

Re: Ask The Experts...MMA

A knockout is where one fighter is knocked out. For an example, Gabriel Gonzaga won via knock out against Cro Cop at UFC 70. He knocked him out with a head kick. Cro Cop's lights went out and the fight stopped.

A TKO is when a ref will stop the fight. An example, when Rampage Jackson defeated Chuck Liddell in May. The ref stopped the fight due to strikes.

Yes, they have cutmen who work the fighters in between rounds.

Re: Ask The Experts...MMA

Part of the fun of watching MMA is those clinches in boxing where the two fighters just stand there and rub against each other, are minimized in MMA. It's up to the ref's own disgression if there's no action (and either fighter is stalling), to stand them up or restart them in the middle of the ring/cage. The powers that be want action, as that's what fans want to see.

Length of rounds are different in some places. The most recognizable are in UFC and approved by the Las Vegas State Athletic Commission. Non-title bouts are three, five minute rounds. Championship fights are five, five minute rounds.

The specific gear is mandatory. In UFC, there are special 8 oz. gloves (that only cover the knuckles) required to protect the knuckles. Fighters have to wear shorts. Besides that, nothing else really. No shoes, gi's, head wear, or anything like that.

more specifically ..... how about some of the wrestling moves ?

can they do body-slams ..... pile-drivers and such things ?

and if they can ... would it be worth it to pick someone up over your head and throw them either to the ground or into the fence ?

There are wrestling moves but none of the flashy stuff pro wrestlers do. Obviously in MMA, you don't have an opponent who is cooperating with you lol.

The most electric move is the power bomb (Quinton Jackson does it best IMO).

There are slams (Matt Hughes uses them with his amazing power) but that's about it as far as moves like that.

Henderson is now with the UFC. He has said they're working off of his PRIDE contract which has two remaining fights left.

So if Henderson were to win the UFC belt, you can bet he would be offered a big extension.
