UFC 66 - Liddell vs. Ortiz II

The big UFC 66 pay per view is December 30th and the line-up is pretty stacked. The main event will feature two of the greatest fighters in America. Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell will defend the UFC light heavyweight title against Tito "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" Ortiz.

Elswhere, Forrestt Griffin will fight Keith Jardine. Former heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovsky returns to the UFC for the first time since losing the title in the summer. Also on the card are Chris Leben vs. Jason McDonald and the UFC debut of Michael Bisping.

Anyone want to predict the big Liddell-Ortiz fight? Liddell won their first meeting years ago and I just don't see him losing this time either.

However, I will say that with Matt Hughes losing last month, it shows no man is truly unbeatable.

Re: UFC 66 - Liddell vs. Ortiz II

I've always been a big fan of Chuck Liddell, but I enjoyed watching Ortiz smoke Shamrock (again). I think Liddle is the better striker, but Ortiz is pretty tuff. This is a difficult one to call, but I think Liddell will keep his light heavyweight title. Either way, this should be a great fight.

Who is Arlovsky fighting?

Arlovski fights Marcio Cruz.

I'm certainly picking the former champ in that one.

Didn't know that Matt Hughes lost his title. Very good fighter. He didn't lose it to St. Piere did he? don't like that Frenchman at all. Prediction for Liddle/Ortiz..... The "Iceman" in the fourth round by way of TKO!

The St. kicked Matts behind real fast and quick I didnt think the St. could beat Matt because of his slimness but man I was wrong. St. came out like a fighting cobra and the country boy didnt survive. I say the Ice will beat Ortiz and give him the same whoppin as last time. When Ortiz beat Shamrock, Shamrock was way past his prime and ortiz was way much younger I bet if Ortiz was to fight Shamrock when Shamrock was in his prime Ortiz wouldnt last a round.

Re: UFC 66 - Liddell vs. Ortiz II

The big show is tomorrow night and it should be the best UFC PPV of the year. It's gotten so much PR and rightfully so.

I like both guys in the main event (Tito shedded his annoying feeling during the Ultimate Fighter) but I feel like Liddell will retain.

Re: UFC 66 - Liddell vs. Ortiz II

Main Event is the only LIVE match to go I believe. Here are the results for the rest of the televised card:

-Mike Bisping def. Ed Schafer due to referee stoppage (punches)
-Andrei Arlovsky def. Marcio Cruz due to referee stoppage (punches)
-Jason MacDonald def. Chris Leben due to referee stoppage (guillotine)...only fight to go into 2nd round
-Keith Jardine def. Forrestt Griffin due to referee stoppage (punches)

-Main event was said to be great. Liddell won in the 3rd due to referee stoppage from Punches. Ortiz was busted open early in the fight but never backed away.

Hot Dog! I'm down with Liddell beating up on Ortiz! The only bummer I see is that Griffin lost. That really sucks. BTW, has anyone heard anything about Stephan Bonner? It seems like he has fallen off of the face of the Earth.

Bonnar failed a drug test I believe and has been suspended for a few months.

Re: UFC 66 - Liddell vs. Ortiz II

bonar failed a steroid test after griffin bonar 11 bonar just had a bad fight didnt seem to take jardine serious. He will be back and i think he will be a better fighter for this. Liddell, well its good to see ortiz take an ass whopping and they now have brought quitin "rampage" jackson to the ufc the only defeat liddell has never revenged i see them hyping this up big time. the next ppv is going to suck since the tuf comeback gets their title shots should be a good buyrate for them but horrible fights.

Re: UFC 66 - Liddell vs. Ortiz II

I was just able to watch the show this week. Wow, definitely one of the best UFC shows of the year.

Sucks that Griffin couldn't survive but Jardine's hands are like stone. Jardine looks like he can be a real threat soon. Griffin just needs to go back to the gym because he's still a fan favorite.

Thiago Alves looked great in his win...too bad he tested positive for a banned substance though. He admitted he took it but didn't know it was banned. So I guess we can believe him. He'll likely serve a suspension, come back and start from the bottom again.

The main event was great. A real main event atmosphere at the sold out MGM Grand. I have to say though, I never thought Ortiz had enough to take Liddell out. Chuck looked so damn confident right out of the gate, it was amazing.

How Tito survived that first round, I'll never know. It took guts to say the least.

Big props to Liddell for remaining arguably the best fighter on the planet. His striking ability is second to no one.

As for UFC 67, really sucks that GSP had to pull out due to a knee injury.

Re: UFC 66 - Liddell vs. Ortiz II

Some amazing notes from UFC 66 after the fact from FOX Sports and their new MMA Blog

-Liddell fought with a torn ACL. He tore it during training and told nobody about it.
-If the buyrate of the PPV turns out to be the expected 1.0 million+, both Liddell and Ortiz will receive about a $3 Million bonus for being the headliners.

Also, Chuck Liddell signed and handed away the shorts he wore during his successful championship defense on Saturday. You can bid for them on EBay. All proceeds will go to the Ryan Bennett family (Bennett was a MMA journalist and former UFC announcer who passed away a few months ago in a car accideent).

I believe that I may have seen the highlights of this fight on YouTube.Com before it was taken off due to copyright infringement issues.
