| Boston's Lester in hospital Tests to determine the cause of Boston Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester's sore back have revealed enlarged lymph nodes, the team said Thursday. As a result, Lester was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital on Wednesday for further evaluation and testing, Red Sox medical director Dr. Thomas Gill said in a statement. On Tuesday, the Red Sox had put the rookie on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 24 with a back strain. He last pitched Aug. 23 in a 5-4 win against the Angels. | Re: Boston's Lester in hospital I know that Hideki Matsui will be returning soon, even though he didn't look that well in batting practice. I heard that he swung off-time a lot and missed a couple of pitches. Hopefully, he will be ready for the post-season. As for Jon Lester, it is sad that he will have to remain on the DL. I am not exactly sure about the status and duration of this injury, but it won't be short. Here is a news clipping from the Boston Herald: Quote:

| Re: Boston's Lester in hospital Wow, Jon Lester, reportedly, was diagnosed with lymphoma. It looks to be a form of cancer and he'll undergo treatments shortly. Thankfully, it is treatable. Nothing but the best wishes from me to Lester and his family. |
