| Ortiz still looking for an answer With David Ortiz taking a seat on the bench with lefthander Dontrelle Willis on the mound, the Red Sox' designated hitter was relaxed and in the mood to talk before yesterday's game against the Tigers. Not only did he tell a number of stories to the assembled media, but he admitted to considering unconventional methods to get out of his season-long slump - he's batting .187 with one home run and 20 RBIs. One step was to see an eye doctor. Another was to play like a kid. Boston Red Sox - Ortiz still looking for an answer - The Boston Globe

| Re: Ortiz still looking for an answer More than likely he'll have a different uniform next year. That may help the Sox. |

| Re: Ortiz still looking for an answer Finally, after many years the Red Sox organization has seen the light in that great players fade away and when they do you need to let them go. Yes there are times when they have released players and it comes back to burn us but it works the other way also. He is 33 years old which by todays standards isn't all that old but his batting average and production is down. He does carry a few extra pounds and he is just a DH unless they play the National league teams and then they use him sparingly. What I am saying is that if there is another bat out there that is available then it may be time to consider letting him move on. Do the great players have slumps ??? They sure do but how long do you allow a slump to continue before you at least consider some cations to offset it ? There are no players who are immune to trade or release. |
