| Red Sox Shopping Wells The Boston Red Sox are actively shopping veteran pitcher David Wells to determine what they could get if they decide to trade the lefty in the next 48 hours. Wells, 43, cleared waivers on Aug. 3, at a time when he was just starting to come back from a serious knee problem; on July 31, he allowed eight runs in 4 2/3 innings. Because he cleared waivers, he can be traded to any team without restriction, and Wells has pitched much better of late. He has 2.65 ERA in the month of August, walking five and striking out 20 in 34 innings. ESPN.com - MLB - Source: Chances Sox will deal Wells at '80-20 or 90-10' well i suppose the end is here would they trade him to the Yankees ?

Re: Red Sox Shopping Wells According to a Mets forum that will remain anonymous, they think that the Mets will be interested since Omar Minaya likes power-pitchers. What are you opinions about seeing this pitcher in New York, again?

Re: Red Sox Shopping Wells You can keep him! I think he is a contributer to bad team chemistry. His attitude is unbearable and the Mets don't need any trouble now. They have their own struggles to deal with. I see Well's days as a starter diminishing as I imagine he would be a better player out of the bullpen. He is 43 years old and suffers injuries as much as Grant Hill. I can't see him helping out in any way.

Re: Red Sox Shopping Wells Maybe it is time to send Wakefield packing. I was not impressed with Mirrabelli when Jason Veritek was out. Now that they have the new prospective catcher from SD they should look at unloading Wakefield.

Re: Red Sox Shopping Wells I like Wakefield, but I don't like Mirabelli. Does Wakefield really "need" his own personal catcher? When I pitched back in the day, I threw into the catcher's mit, not the catcher!

Re: Red Sox Shopping Wells You got yourself a good point there, ThePundit. How hard is it to catch a good old knuckler? I played only as a closing pitcher and a second-baseman back in the day. My friend played catcher and I was comfortable pitching to him because he always gave me good advice on the mound. It really didn't make a difference since everyone could catch my fastball and nasty slider.
