Re: Boston/NY 5 Games in 4 Days

There is plenty of time to regroup if the Sox split these next two. If they win both they are only 2.5 back. They need to make sure they don't get swept. They still have four left in the Stadium, and the Yankees have a tough schedule over the next three weeks or so.

Cool Re: Boston/NY 5 Games in 4 Days

Why didn't Epstein get a lefty in the bullpen at the deadline? The Sox don't have one lefty in the pen. At least the Yankees have Villone and Meyers to deal with Ortiz. It's suicide not to have a lefty when you have Damon,Abreu,Giambi, Cano, Bernie,et....

If Sheffield comes back this year, he's not going to RF. Abreu is there to stay.

Re: Boston/NY 5 Games in 4 Days

Will Gary Sheffield resume the season in Bernie Williams' role earlier this season. Basically an expensive outfielder who will be used in less than 10 full games this year. I am sure that Melky Cabrera will go back onto the bench as Hideki Matsui steals back his spot in left-field.

Cool Re: Boston/NY 5 Games in 4 Days

Again, as happy as I am about the series, the 4 hour games are just painful. 3 games in a row either just under or over 4 hours.... I can't take it.

Re: Boston/NY 5 Games in 4 Days

They took three of four against the Tigers in Detroit and swept the White Sox at the Stadium. They lost two of three in Chicago but realistically should have won all three games. The Yankees nemisis is the Angels, who are still four and a half back of Oakland.
All of a sudden,as I listen to the talk shows on my car radio, Theo Epstein has gone from genius to village idiot! He is being killed for not getting a left-hander for the bullpen.

One thing about these Yankees. Their first 4 batters: Damon, Jeter, Abreu and Giambi take a ton of pitches and wear the opposing starting pitcher down and are able to get into the opponents bullpen so I think they can beat anybody. It even took Schilling 20 pitches to record the first 2 outs of the game last night.

The playoffs are all about which rotation gets hot. Last year it was Chicago's. Who knows if Johnson/Mussina/Wang can get hot come October.

How about that? A game played in under 4 hours...Only 3 hours and 3 minutes for a 2-1 game. Remember the days when the 2-1 game used to take 2 1/2 hours tops?

Re: Boston/NY 5 Games in 4 Days

Well that's what the NL is for, shorter games.

Anywho, the Red Sox completely dropped the ball and are as good as done as far as playoff contention goes. Complete domination by the Yanks.

Re: Boston/NY 5 Games in 4 Days

The Yankees definitely looked like the better team out there, this past series. This was suppose to be a determining-match to see which organization would go on to reach the Playoffs and which one would watch the Playoffs from a bar somewhere. As of now, it looks as if the Yankees are going to advance in their pursuit to win their 27th World Championship title.

Go Yankees!

Re: Boston/NY 5 Games in 4 Days

A 5 game sweep by the Yanks? Ouch. From what the AP makes it sound like, this basically kills the Sox chances at winning the division: "New York took a season-high 6 1/2 -game lead in the AL East with a 2-1 victory over Boston on Monday. The Yankees have never squandered a lead that large, and they hadn't swept Boston in five games in more than half a century." How in the world do the Red Sox rebound from THIS?

Re: Boston/NY 5 Games in 4 Days

July 21st- Red Sox lead by 3.5 games
August 21st- Yankees lead by 6.5 games

This was a shameful series for the Sox...the Yanks beat them in every way:

Blowouts in Games 1 & 3
Comebacks in Games 2 & 4
Pitching Dual in Game 5

Boston Massacre 2
