What Manny gets away with There is no place in baseball for so many of the things this idiot gets away with under the guise of "Manny being Manny". Just tonight, he hit a fly ball 10 feet fair down the right field line and just stood and watched it without running. This after he swings and fouls off a ball he thinks he should have hit and then screams out loud, "oH No!" He stands at home plate and watches home runs and doesn't run hard on ahlf of his ground balls. I would give my right arm to see him transported back in time to face Bob Gibson while he was pulling these antics. I guarantee you he would not do it twice.

Legend: Unforunately the game has changed and the days of pitchers not putting up with being embarassed are long gone. Look at all the curtain calls for run of the mill homers. In '61, the Yankees had to push Maris out of the dugout when he broke Babe Ruth's record. |

Re: What Manny gets away with That's why Russ Springer was applauded by the Houston crowd when he hit Bonds. Curtain calls and watching home runs are one thing, but not running on a fly ball to right is another. There is trouble ahead for Manny this year, I have a feeling.

Re: What Manny gets away with Wow, why do you take offense at what Manny does, Trashed? I'm surprised that, as a Yankee fan, I must support Manny. Personally, I love to watch him play... not only does he hit outrageously long home runs but he has a lot of fun while doing so. If I hit home runs like Manny does, I would stop and admire each one as well. I would definitely try to see where it landed (especially if I was crushing them out onto the street). Manny just plays the sport as a fan... He loves to watch his own homers, he tries his best (even thou he isn't a Gold Glover) to catch balls and throw runners out (which he led the league in last year), and he just has fun. He isn't insulting anyone or breaking any rules... if the Sox really minded, they would speak to him... but as they say, "he's just Manny being Manny"! The fans love him (Boston ones at least) and the commissioner has no problem with how he plays. In conclusion: A) Manny has broken no rules (or at least none that others haven't broken) B) He has fun and the fans love him. C) And he plays the sport amazingly well!

Re: What Manny gets away with I guess you can consider baseball a form of entertainment. Not exactly like the WWE (which is 50% entertainment and 50% action), but is definitely up there. Baseball also isn't "set-up" (I hope) like other sports might be. Baseball is truly a type of entertainment in a competive game-like format. You have had some "odd balls" over the years. Who could forget Turk Wendall? In my opinion, he was the oddest out of the bunch. Also, it is very interesting to learn about all the superstitions that the players believe in. That is quite entertaining by itself! More importantly, Manny Ramirez is allowed to express himself in an appropriate way. He can dance, shuffle, jump and even mock the crowd if he wants. Depending on a players personality, he will decide which type of celebration he wants to award the crowd. Of course, there will be a larger celebration if the athlete is at his home stadium. What is Sammy Sosa most famously known for? Not his cork incident, but his "homerun hop". That is his expression after he pops one onto the scoreboard.

Re: What Manny gets away with Exactly! Now lets just take that idea further though Marc. I was doing some reasearch watching WWE after the Yanks kicked the Sox carcasses and the chairman of the WWE Vince McMahon had a club that some wrestlers must join the the "Mr. McMahon Kiss My A$$ Club" (im not joking by the way http://www.pwtorch.com/ if you dont believe me). Now imagine after Manny hits a say...gamewinning homerun the pitcher has to kiss Mannys a$$. Join Manny's club so to speak. Also players would finally be able to moon the hometown fans which im sure they want to do anyway. My pro-wrestling/baseball hybrid is a superb idea and when I write Mr. McMahon for an interview and he gets involved with Bud "Id Sell My Kid for Cash" Selig well see 500 pound sumo wrestler catchers who can REALLY block the plate! The happiest guy when WWE merges with MLB will probably be Barry Bonds. Why? Cause steroids will most likely be legal!
