| Yaz Still Holds a Record Carl Yastrzemski didn't know he made history until he read about it in the newspaper the next day. The son of a Long Island potato farmer was too wrapped up in the tight 1967 pennant race, strange territory for a Red Sox team that finished ninth in the AL the previous two seasons. So when he turned to an inside page of his Monday paper - the headline about Boston's first pennant in 21 years was on Page 1 - he saw the news: Yaz wins Triple Crown. Triple Crown facts: Yastrzemski's '67 feat remains unmatched | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press

| Re: Yaz Still Holds a Record I used to be back in their hay day. We used to have their double "A" team playing for us. The Paul O'Neil era. It was great back then. |

| Re: Yaz Still Holds a Record I really didn't need to. We sent Jessica and boom !!! they were out of the playoffs right away. No need to inflict physical harm when you can just send mental charm. |

| Re: Yaz Still Holds a Record Yaz tied Harmon Killebrew in 1967 for home runs with 44 to get that Triple Crown. Frank Robinson had won it the year before with Baltimore (after the Reds unloaded him, Gotham!) and Mantle had won it in 1956. Nobody has won one since and it doesn't look as if they will anytime soon. Ryan Howard will never win a batting title to go with his power numbers in the NL, leaving A-Rod in the American League as your best chance.
