| Hank Steinbrenner denounces Red Sox Nation Steinbrenner, apparently trying to emphasize that he has no fear of the Yankees' American League competition, has amped up the rivalry between the two teams, intentionally or not. "Red Sox Nation?" What a bunch of [expletive] that is," he said in an interview with The New York Times' Play magazine. "That was a creation of the Red Sox and ESPN, which is filled with Red Sox fans. "Go anywhere in America and you won't see Red Sox hats and jackets, you'll see Yankee hats and jackets. This is a Yankee country. We're going to put the Yankees back on top and restore the universe to order." ESPN - Hank Steinbrenner, in another outspoken moment, denounces Red Sox Nation - MLB

| Re: Hank Steinbrenner denounces Red Sox Nation I guess someone wanted some publicity when he woke up in the morning. Hank's only been the face of the franchise for what? 3-5 months? He's already talked enough to the press to last a lifetime. |

| Re: Hank Steinbrenner denounces Red Sox Nation wait you people are telling me your shocked at how much Hank is talking? Whats the saying the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. His father made public releases challenging the team when the yanks were in the midst of a 2 GAME LOSING STREAK. nope cant say this surprises me, Whats funny the exact reason red sox Nation was started is because mostly of people who hated the Yankees ways, and at the time the red sox were spending far less money then Yankees were. whats going to happen when the red sox catch up in payroll?

| Re: Hank Steinbrenner denounces Red Sox Nation Sunday, March 2, 2008 BY PETE CALDERA STAFF WRITER - NorthJersey.COM CLEARWATER, Fla. -- In response to Hank Steinbrenner's statement that the Yankees' brand trumped that of Red Sox Nation from a marketing standpoint, Boston CEO and president Larry Lucchino fired back. "I don't deny there are Yankee fans everywhere. But it's blind of him not to see the phenomenon that is Red Sox Nation," Lucchino told the Boston Globe. Lucchino also told the paper that he appreciated how Steinbrenner had "picked up on the Star Wars metaphor" from an earlier quote. "He said he was happy to be Darth Vader and we are happy to be the Rebel Alliance." However, it was Lucchino who first referred to the Yankees as the "Evil Empire'' in 2002, after the club signed Cuban defector Jose Contreras – a pitcher the Red Sox desperately wanted at the time. "I don't think it was bad at all, or even controversial," Steinbrenner told The Record of Lucchino's famous quote. "He was just kind of equating us to what [President] Reagan referred to the Soviet Union as in the early '80s. "I certainly took exception to the 'evil' part," Steinbrenner said. "But I certainly understood his point." | Re: Hank Steinbrenner denounces Red Sox Nation It's not the Red Sox, but I am tired of the "Red Sox nation" saying. It's everywhere, and it's worn out. Now it's "jr nation" Cowboys Nation. Hell, during the College World Series last year, this reporter even asked the team how this win felt for "Beaver Nation". I thought I was gonna blow soda through my nose!! The saying is played out. Let's move on to the next debacle! |

Red Sox Nation is more than likely here to stay for quite some time. Sincerely, GTG - Nation |

That is only directed at the saying, not at the team. I've got no problems with the Red Sox themselves, just that putrid, overhyped saying! |
