Roger Clemens Hey, sawxfans. I know we all worshipped this guy for a little over a decade, but while everyone's talking about how this debacle hurts him Big Picture with the Hall of Fame, ive been wondering what you think this does in terms of his legacy as a member of the Sox? I mean, after two stints with the yanks i know none of us were exactly clammering to get his number tattooed on our backs, but when all is said and done do you think this effectively cuts all ties with the guy when it comes to him being remembered (and honored) of the great red sox players of all-time? In the years after retirement, we tend to take care of our own, so this is an issue that no one's really talking about, but its definitely gonna come up. Personally, I'm through with the guy, but I guess The Devil's Advocate would say that even if the accusations are proven to be true (which lets face it, they sure seem to be..) no one was accusing the guy of juicing before we let him go. What do you guys think? Last edited by EmpireWF : 01-13-2008 at 02:04 PM. Reason: removed link

Re: Roger Clemens Yeah I agree--it doesnt take away from his accomplishes with us--but don't you think itd make it a little bizarre to having him tossing out first pitches in 10 years if as far as the rest of Major League Baseball is concerned he's known as a cheater. Like if he's banned from the Hall and his career is tarnished in the big picture, how does that affect the way WE look at him longterm? I mighta phrased it poorly, but thats more of what Im thinking. Its a funny situation, because youre right in that no one's question what he accomplished with us, which was already superhuman. Funny situation........

Re: Roger Clemens Okay guys, I'm back & ready to go. I took out some baseball cards & found one from 84, he was so small compare to what he is now, so that is one thing to look at. The bigger thing is more recent. When he finished with us his career had already piqued & he reached a plateau, when he went to Toronto, he was pitching like he did in the better years with us. I will not take away credit if he earned it & I believe he did when he was with us so he should be inducted into the HOF. However, I agree with Schilling as far as he should give back the 3 Cy Young awards if he is proven guilty. Now, my opinion on the whole PED/Clemens accusation. First, if I was accused of something & was innocent I would be making statements to the press immediately declaring my innocence. 2nd, Pettit & Clemens are good friends, they played together in NY & Houston, & have the same trainer, Pettit admitted using yet Clemens didn't know anything. 3rd, Pettit admitted it after McNamee named him which to me gives McNamee credibility. 4th, McNamee & Clemens are friends, what does McNamee get out of naming him. 5th, McNamee has already ruined his career & his name. 6th, the Mitchell report took a long time to put together & I'm pretty sure that he got corroboration from another source before he put names out like that. 7th, Clemens taped a conversation with McNamee which did nothing but make Clemens look guilty. 8th, there is a taped 'interogation' of McNamee by 2 P.I.s hired by Clemens, that the lawyers won't make public, but McNamee's lawyer mentioned getting it subpoenaed. I'm sorry, it has been a long time since I've been here so I had alot to say. Bottom line is I totally believe Clemens was juiced with Toronto, NY & Houston. Pettit admitted it & apologized immediately which made him the better man. Had Clemens done it that way, we wouldn't even be on this topic now. Roges needs to face it: The Rocket is a Dud!!!
