Scandals With the all the talk about the Mitchell report & the HOF, I would like to ask for opinions on an old scandal. What do you think about Pete Rose & the HOF & why? What about the players listed in the Mitchell report? It will be interesting to see different opinions.

Re: Scandals I believe that any accomplishments Rose made as a player should be recognized. Nothing he did as a player was tainted as is the case with Bonds. Rose did it with his abilities. While Bonds has the morals of a jackass (or A-Rod) & any accomplishments made by him are tainted. I want to know if he would have any objections to an asterisk on his needles.

Re: Scandals That sounds fair. The only thing I have a problem with is that Rose wouldn't be going into the HOF for managing which is when his problems occurred. I think Bonds HR record & any future records are questionable. Actually I think now Bonds is more known for the steroid controversy now than anything else.

| Re: Scandals Rose signed on for his punishment folks, the others haven't as of yet. If Pete had just told the truth once, all would have been forgiven. I'd like to see just one of these steroid guys own up to things in a sincere, elaborate apology. Just one. Don't hold your breath, not with their union.

Re: Scandals I don't buy that. Rose would never have been inducted. Do you really believe Bonds or Clemens are ever going to admit to it? Do you think they are innocent? If they're innocent, then Clinton didn't inhale & his relationship with Monica really was platonic.

Re: Scandals I understand the O.J. point, but it is not a criminal matter as much as a moral one. Look at some of the names in the report, Clemens, Bonds, Petit, Tejada. These are all active players (Clemens is a maybe), but these are the players that our kids look up to. My son is 14 & a Red Sox fan, I'm so thankful for players like Schilling who is a role model because when you have all the hype around a name like Clemens & all his acomplishments that is who the kids want to be like. Then what happens when their name is tainted? Not one of them was man enough to stand up & take responsibility for their actions. That's not anyond I want my kids to be like. If you're man enough to do it, then be man enough to admit it. I am still upset that Bonds broke Aaron's record. How many of those HRs were made with the use of steroids? There is no way to know yet that is an accomplishment that takes a space in the HOF. Meanwhile the great ones like Jim Rice, still haven't been inducted.

Re: Scandals Lied to congress about what? I could be wrong (correct me if I am) but I thought when Schilling was questioned about steroids, didn't he say he never actually saw anyone do them so he could not, in good conscience, give names? Even if I am wrong & he did lie to congress, they're politicians they lie all the time. I never said Schilling was a saint, after all he is human, but he isn't using and that is what I meant when I said a role model. He may not pitch great all the time, but he didn't start using steroids to correct the problem. What he did do is work harder until he corrected the problem. There aren't many players like that. That is what I would like my son to learn, not how to inject himself with that crap.

Re: Scandals Schilling talked his way into a lie in front of Congress. They cited an article where Schilling was quoted as saying something along the lines that steroids are a problem in the sport and he's seen them. Then when asked about it by Congress, he said he never saw anyone use them. Just saying, Schilling shouldn't be used in any argument against liars. He loves to hear himself talk.
