New agent

I never pay attention to agents but when I heard Scott Boras is Jacoby Ellsbury's new agent it caught my attention -Big Time. That can't be good. This is the same man who announced during the 4th & final game of the World Series, that A-Rod opted out of his Yankee contract. Didn't A-Rod end up crawling back after nobody else was willing to pay $350 million for, in my opinion, a 2nd rate 3rd baseman? Didn't A-Rod crawl back without 'benefit' of his agent? I'm not sure what Ellsbury was thinking, or for that matter, IF he was thinking, but I hope he knows what he's doing.

Re: New agent

That "second rate" third baseman is probably the best player in the game. lol

Boras still gets guys their money so I wouldn't doubt Ellsbury here. But he won't be a free-agent for several years down the line.

Re: New agent

The 2nd rate 3rd baseman plays dirty, which keeps me from giving any credit. Even if he didn't play dirty, he isn't as good as Lowell. And never will be. I also think he gets way too much because he is a Yankee. David Ortiz had 2 consecutive 50+ home run seasons yet there wasn't anywhere near as much hype. Lowell is a more complete & consistant all around 3rd baseman, & deserved to be M.V.P. but he's not a Yankee so he doesn't get the credit he deserves. Not to mention the charities he is involved in.

Re: New agent

You've seen maybe one or two questionable plays by ARod in recent memory. I'd hardly think of him as a dirty player. Lowell is a fine player, don't get me wrong, but he had one amazing year in 2007. Let's see if he can maintain it.

Ortiz was never an MVP because he's the DH, plus A-Rod was right there with him in offensive production...except he has a good glove.

Cool Re: New agent

So much for Boras' stock going down. If I was an athlete, and my goal was to make every last penny, I would probably hire him, too.

'07 was in fact a great year for him but '06 was no snoozer. Like a fine wine he's getting better with age !!!

Re: New agent

I just can't give him any credit. If he has to play dirty, how much confidence does he have in his own skills? In my opinion, in close plays, if it involves the Yankees, the call almost always goes in favor of the Yankees. Does anybody else agree? He may have skills, but his rep. is tarnished. I didn't mean Ortiz should have gotten the M.V.P., I meant when he had those 2 seasons, there wasn't as much hype.

Ginahunt - come back to us. I understand you hate A-Rod, but Lowell is nowhere near the player A-Rod is.

Also, as far as playing dirty - what about when Reggie stuck his butt out and deflected that double play ball in the '78 series? He never gets criticized. Nor should he. You do what you do to help your team win. THe trick is not getting caught.

Also, the couple of things that A-Rod did were just reactions in the heat of the moment. They weren't some involved plot.

What about when Pedro Martinez threw over Karim Garcia's head. That's not dirty? Also, you don't think the Red Sox and every other team tries to steal other teams signs? Everything that A-Rod does is just majorly magnified.

on a scale of 1-10 ..... A-Rod is a 10 .. and Lowell is about a 7.5 imo ..... and most of you know i am basically as big a Red Sox fan / Yankee hater that there is

Re: New agent

I get what you guys are saying, but the thing that bothers me is that he doesn't try to hide the sleazy things he does. It's like saying being who he is he can do whatever he wants & remain untouchable. He does it because he can without suffering any consequences.
In 78, I was 6, so I don't remember the incident you are speaking of.

If Boston did the things he does everyone would have something to say. All because we aren't the Yankees.

Re: New agent

It's starting already, Ellsbury is signing autographs at some store. Charges between $125 & 150 depending on what he signs, which you supply. A few months ago, you could have paid $10.00 to go to a Pawtucket game & got his autograph for free.

Re: New agent

Well the kid did play his heart out in the world series. Gotta expect a boost in such things.

What do you mean ARod doesn't try to hide sleezy things. It's not like he's tripping players every game or something like that.

No not every game, but when he does it you can bet your can he does it he makes sure even a blind person can see it. I live in Southern Connecticut, about 45 mins. from N.Y. & most people around here are Yankee fans, out of all the fans I talked to, not 1 is glad he's back. They don't like him.

That may be very true but the possible road to the World Series probably includes going down the A-Rod path.
