The Red Sox re-acquired catcher Doug Mirabelli from the Padres for catcher Josh Bard, a minor leaguer and some cash. He will be catching knuckleballer Tim Wakefield tonight against the Yankees.

I was listening to the guys on ESPN News, and they were going over this trade. It seems that Mirabelli has been watching the Red Sox on TV, and kept complaining to the Padres that he wanted to go back. Bard, of course, is unpopular in Boston so both teams were unhappy with unhappy players. So the Sox and Padres struck a deal. BUT, the Yankees heard what was going on, and offered Mirabelli money to stay where he was in San Diego! If Wakefield has Mirabelli, he's a whole new pitcher!

I thought that was funny... Oh, Mirabelli is NOT in tonight's lineup ( his helicopter has not arrived yet), so Varitek will be catching.

Yeah, Mirabelli showed up a bit before the game. Varitek was in gear, but Mirabelli showed up just in time to play. ( I was just reporting what I heard on ESPN)
