Damon a traitor? Much will be made of Johnny Damon going to the Yankees for more money in the next few weeks, but Boston fans need to remember that they had no problem signing him away from Oakland prior to the 2002 season. Bronson Arroyo showed you what happens when you give the owners a "discount" as he now is in Cincinnati- for that nightmare of a player, Wily Mo Pena. There are enough reasons for Sox faithful to hate NY, but this should be way down on the list. If any of us were offered millions more to do what we do for another company, who here would say "No"? The thing that precipiates all of this talk is when Damon claims the Red Sox "disrespected him" by only offering 10 million a year.

I think fans calling Damon a traitor and a Judas is silly. Had the Sox paid Damon what the Yankees are paying him, we would all have been up in arms over their overspending. I'll boo the hell out of him every time I see him in pinstripes, because that's what Red Sox fans do - we boo the Yankees. But that doesn't change the fact that I'll always be thankful for what he did for the Sox in Boston. |

Re: Damon a traitor? Well, he's not a true Yankee yet either... After spending so many years in the enemy camp, he can't be expected to be welcomed (by me and my friends) right away. We decided that until he hits a walk-off home run against the Red Sox in an ALCS game, he will not be a TRUE Yankee (like Jeter, Rivera, Mussina, etc...) He doesn't really strike me as a traitor either. The Red Sox just didn't go after him, so he was signed by the Yanks. The Sox have no one to blame but themselves.

Simple Simon: It was actually a lot of money and a lot of years....And let's not get crazy. Damon wasn't a long time Red Sock. He was there for 4 years. He had previously played for KC and Oakland. The truth is the Sox could have had him by matching the Yankees offer (just like Steinbrenner matched the Red Sox offer to Bernie Williams 7 years ago). But they not only didn't match it, they totally blew him off.

Re: Damon a traitor? See this is why i like college baseball, they play for the game not for the money, and thats how it should be, yea its good to have the money but i would alot much rather have the ring....
