The Red Sox beat the Angels, 4-0, in Game 1 of the ALDS last night. Josh Beckett was awesome. He allowed a leadoff single and then retired 19 consecutive batters. He struck out 8 and pitched the complete game shutout, the third playoff shutout of this career, in the victory. He's tied for second on the all time postseason shutout list now, just one behind Christy Mathewson, and has tossed 18 straight innings without allowing a run.

Those are the Angels that I told you would show up to play Boston; Garrett Anderson seeming disinterested and striking out all night and nobody else able to hit the ball while Lackey pitches like a bum.

That is a money pitcher for you...few pitchers come through in the clutch these days...

Yep, you said it, Goth. I'd love to see him get another shutout sometime this playoffs. Just not against the Indians.
