Here's the news of the day, quickly, from Terry Francona's press conference.
Francona announced the 25-man roster for the first round of the playoffs, and it contained a surprise. Tim Wakefield, who Francona announced yesterday would be coming out of the bullpen, has been left off the roster.
Wakefield received a cortisone shot in his back after his last start, on Saturday against the Twins, and the team decided today that it would be better to let Wakefield's back improve before potentially adding him to the roster for a series down the road. Jon Lester will take his place.

i love him ...more than j. dimagio or pete rose or dale murphy , but i think those in charge made the right move....varitec can not catch him so it complicates the issue..........he got us here,so let him sit back[no pun] and enjoy...
