| Free Uniforms for Little Leaguers Heard about this on the radio and looked it up on the Spinners website. If your kids belong to a little league team with the name "Yankees" the Spinners will give your kids brand new RED SOX uniforms if you dump the Yankee name. Check it out. MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 27, 2006 Contact: Jon Goode (978-805-5106) Over 50 Teams to pick up Spinners Uniforms this Sunday as a result of trying to Eliminate the Yankees Special Yankees Clothing Drive being held in conjunction with the uniform pick-up All of these teams would have been called the Yankees, but the Spinners have eliminated all of these former Yankee teams changing the team names to the Spinners. “The response has been tremendously positive from all the leagues involved,” said Lowell Spinners General Manager Tim Bawmann. “In many cases we have helped solve a problem as the kids will be much happier playing for the Spinners rather than the Yankees.” Also that day, the leagues and fans are encouraged to bring down all Yankees paraphernalia as the Spinners are hosting their first annual Yankees Clothing Drive. The Spinners will take all the Yankees hats, uniforms, t-shirts and anything else Yankees and ship everything down to New York. “Rather than have a large bon fire with the Yankees paraphernalia as most of Red Sox Nation wanted to do, we realized that these articles of clothing might help some leagues down there,” said Bawmann. Several sponsors have “stepped up the plate” to get involved with the promotion and the area youth baseball leagues. Village Automotive, Tidal Wave Car Wash and the City of Champions DVD are all getting involved to help eliminate the Yankees. In all, over 60 teams with the majority of the teams from southern New Hampshire and Eastern Massachusetts have participated in the Yankees Elimination promotion. A waiting list has been formed for 2007. There are 33 different communities participating: Amesbury, Beverly, Boston, Boxboro, Brockton, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Dracut, Fitchburg, Georgetown, Harvard, Hudson (NH), Lancaster, Lawrence, Littleton, Longmeadow, Lowell, Lynn, Melrose, Methuen, Milford (NH), Mt. Washington (NH), Nahant, Nashua, North Andover, Oakton (VA), Rochester (NY), Saugus, Southboro, Swampscott, Swansea and Woburn. “The biggest thing we are excited about is the relationship-building we are doing with so many baseball organizations across the region,” said Bawmann. “We will now help contribute thousands of dollars for these youth baseball leagues and organizations. It’s been a win-win all around for everyone involved.” April 2 also marks the first day of in-person ticket sales for the Spinners. That day everyone from the various leagues and area fans are invited into LeLacheur Park free of charge where some of the activities planned include playing catch on the field, caricatures, karaoke, radar gun and a chance to win Red Sox tickets.
