Red Sox get Eric Gagne

The Red Sox have agree to a deal with the Rangers that would give them Eric Gange if he waves his no trade clause. The details have not yet been announced

MLB.com says Boston pitcher Kason Gabbard is said to be part of the package that goes to Texas.

Buster Olney says Kason Gabbard, OF David Murphy, and 16–year-old OF Engel Beltre will go to Texas.

A 16 yr old . They are signing kids that young now. Do they scout little league games?

How does this trade affect the AL East race. This gives Boston one of the best bullpens in the league now IMO. Gagne, Okajima, and Papelbon. That would give them 2007s version of the Nasty Boys. They have a good 7th, 8th, and 9th inning pitcher.

Gabbard and Murphy are the two listed by Yahoo! Sports. Great deal. Boston lands a quality set-up man and spot closer, strengthening their bullpen immensely. If I'm a Red Sox fan, I'm lovin' this trade.

Just heard on ESPNnews that it is official. He waived his no trade clause. The only thing left is to sign the papers

16 year olds can be signed if there from the latin islands or asia, pretty much if there from a country that doesnt have to enter the draft, then they can be signed at 16 but cant enter the majors to 18

Re: Red Sox get Eric Gagne

I think this trade may make them the favorites this year now. If the opposing team isn't winning by the 6th, they may not be able to come back.

Only in Boston.... . I think they were the favorites so far to win the AL east. I think this move puts them in the front for World Series rings again.

2 things i like about it and 1 thing i dont

i like that it shores up our bullpen ...... Tavarez and Snyder both scare the hell out of me coming out of the pen ......... i also like that we have a backup closer should anything happen to Papelbon (if you remember he got hurt at the end of last year)

what i dont like ..... Kason Gabbard is 25, 4-0 with a 3.72 ERA ....... imo there is a chance he could have replaced Schilling for the next 10 years

overall, i like it ....... this year Gagne is 2-0 with 16 saves in 17 chances and a 2.16 ERA ....... and he is only 31 ...... i say bring him in and get him in a 5 yr deal now

do you think next year this could push papelbon to a starter, you know he wants to be one, and gagne is just going to opt out so he can close somewhere but im sure he would stay to be the closer in boston.
