The best baseball player on the Red Sox is Manny. Ortiz almost killed himself trying to slide into second base. He has been allowed to put on so much weight that I honestly believe that his career may be shortened now due to the strain it will put on his legs. No reliever in my opinion can be considered the best player on a team, and Beckett could implode here in the second half. Manny is a first ballot Hall of Famer and arguably the best pure hitter of this era.

Not even Rivera or Gagne in their primes? Or some of the great closers of the past? Nah, I think a reliever can be the best player on the team, but I don't think that's the case here. I'm going to go with Beckett. Until he proves otherwise, he's a top-three AL pitcher.

I have to agree. Manny may well be one of the best hitters of his generation. He could give you whatever you needed.
