Just heard on ESPN that David Ortiz has said that he's not 100% sure that he's never used steroids. To paraphrase his quote, Ortiz said used to purchase a protein shake from the Dominican Republic, and he can't say for certain that the shake was steroid free. He went on to say that he no longer buys the shake because it hasn't been approved. Whether he meant by baseball or by the FDA, I'm not sure. Thoughts on Ortiz's comments?

I don't think Big Popi is artifically inflated...I think he would be big regardless...

I don't think a guy on the juice would say, oh btw, I use to drink this weird shake that may have had roids...doesn't happen...the Popi is clean....

Right... he was basically making the point that, before roids and stuff became a big issue, players like him weren't being real careful checking what they were putting in their body. Now they are. And I can see that kind of change of attitude, and I can also see his other point, in that it's hard for any player to say because the shadow of a doubt that they hadn't used a banned performance enhancer, unknowingly, at some point in their careers. More than anything he seemed to be stressing that nowadays players need to be real careful to know what they're taking.

Let him pee in the cup. If it is pure pee then he is clean. By admitting to this terrible crime he is at least making himself available for a test. My guess is he'll pass.

LSC...all players are subject to random testing. I believe every player has been tested multiple times since the policy was enacted a couple of years ago.

First of all, why would he come out and say that. I mean i am glad he is being honest but that is setting him up for negative media attention. However, i cant let myself believe he is on the juice. Its not like he is doing some unhuman like things. Hes a great guy in the league and i hope this doesnt effect his rep.

His progression is a bit shaky, but I'll consider him clean for now. However, he shouldn't be this stupid while speaking to the media.

Yeah, I agree. I never say anyone has used steroids, until tests have proven so. I will never say Bonds, Sosa, etc used steroids until tests have proven they have. Same thing goes with David Ortiz, and any other athletes in sports.

Yup I was aware of that. I was just basically saying that he sounds as though he'd be open to a test at this very moment to reassure anyone and everyone that he isn't a roid-a-tic. Not sure why he even mentioned something he isn't even sure of.

Why would he say it? Well, like I said before... I think what we have here is a clean character coming out and warning players and fans that, hey, we might've done this without even knowing it, so players should be careful what they say and fans should be a little more understanding of our situation. I think of it mostly as speaking out on behalf of (and in a way, to) the players. I personally have no problem with him saying what he said.
